Can you use Synthesia videos commercially?

Yes

Yes, on Starter, Creator and Enterprise. You own your videos, and Synthesia's acceptable use policy says to use it for business needs rather than personal ones. The main limit: you can't put a stock avatar in promoted, boosted or paid social ads without Synthesia's written consent.

Quick answers

Can I use Synthesia avatars in ads?

Not stock avatars in promoted, boosted or paid social media ads, unless Synthesia gives written express consent. The same limit covers TV programmes, news broadcasts, fundraising and political campaigns.

Who owns Synthesia videos?

You do. Synthesia's terms say the customer owns all Customer Data, which includes input and output, but not Synthesia's own components such as stock avatars and templates.

Can I post Synthesia videos on a monetized YouTube channel?

Synthesia's terms allow commercial use. YouTube won't monetize mass-produced, template-like AI content, and realistic AI content must be disclosed at upload.

Platform rules

YouTube

AI disclosure: Required for realistic AI-generated or meaningfully altered content, for AI-generated music, and for AI music that's the main focus of a video. You tick 'AI use' in YouTube Studio when you upload. YouTube says the label alone won't limit a video's audience or its eligibility to earn money.

  • Mass-produced, template-like AI content is not eligible for monetization (inauthentic content policy).
  • Using AI to help tell an original story or visualise your own character is given as an acceptable example.
  • Realistic AI-generated or altered content must be disclosed during upload; non-realistic or minor edits don't need it.
  • AI-generated music must be disclosed, and so must AI music that's the main focus of a video. It can be fully or partly made with AI.
  • Disclosing AI on its own won't limit a video's audience or its eligibility to earn money, according to YouTube.
  • Not disclosing can lead to YouTube adding the label itself, removing content or suspending you from the YouTube Partner Program if you keep skipping it.
